Fancy that. Now if the American Muslim community would speak up instead of remaining silent (silence = endorsement) that would serve to further isolate those who have hijacked a great religion.

Spanish Muslims issue fatwa against Al-Qaeda's Osama Bin Laden
MADRID (AFX) - Spain's Islamic Commission, which groups the nation's Muslim community, said it was issuing a fatwa against Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden,
'We are going to issue a fatwa (religious decree) against Bin Laden this afternoon,' Mansour Escudero, who leads the Federation of Islamic religious entities (Feeri) and co-secretary general of the Spanish governmenmt-created Commission told AFP.
The Commission invited Spanish-based imams to condemn terrorism at Friday prayers, when the whole country will be remembering the 191 people who were killed in the train blasts and the 1,900 injured a year ago.
The attacks have been blamed on mainly Moroccan Islamic extremists loyal to Bin Laden.
'We have called on imams to make a formal declaration condemning terrorism and for a special prayer for all the victims of terrorism,' Escudero said.
The Commission has also drawn up a document designed to 'thank the Spanish people and the government for their attitude towards Muslims' since last March 11, in particular for not taking 'disproportionate' measures similar to those which the Sept 11 attacks sparked in the US.
The Commission called on Muslims to take part in Friday's commemorative programme being organised by Spanish authorities and community groups and to work with them to ensure terrorism was defeated.

Damn good read.....I get so fucking tired of people blaming ALL Muslims for what a small extremist group is doing and has done.

I know quite a few Muslims, and not a one of them supports the shit that those fucks are doing.....they want peace and all colors to get along. Just because someone's a Muslim, does not automatically make them a terrorist.

sorry...got on a tagent there

stereotyping just pisses me the fuck off.....and I've told my friends they need to get together with all the other Muslim's they know who feel the same way, and

Thats my point, the actions of a 'few' of fundamental Islam are not denounced by the majority of Muslims around the world. That implies not only consent, but it paints a very bad picture of the Muslim faith. That gets misconstrued as 'intolerance' or 'hatred', especialy by the more liberal and PC pundits.

Funny- within the realm of their own religion it's apparent that in some circles- they are the most intolerant and hateful group as a whole on this planet!

If this 12th century mentality refuses to meld into the brotherhood of man, they will not be viewed any differently.

Look at the history of the 'religion of peace'.

I don't feel that they should be banned. it is a crutch for the weak minded.
but when they try to push it upon you as the 'best', or 'one true' religion, then they have goon to far.

I hate discussing religion, only the weak minded needs it and they are so set in their beliefs that nothing short of death is going to change it.

How right you are Larry.......hell, there are some people who are atheist, and they can't change their minds or see that others have a right to believe in what they want to believe in.

I for one, say, "if it helps you to make it through your day to believe in a religious ideology or no religious ideology, then more power to you....just don't shove your beliefs down my throat."

I only want one thing shoved down my throat, and it most certainly isn't religion

atheism is a religion onto it’s self, although backwards from the main stream ones, it’s still a ‘un-religion”

Is contact with spirituality such a bad thing? Indeed anything can be exploited to suit whatever ends the greedy and banal see fit. But I've seen faith and spiritualty transcend pain and hate and failure. I've seen the Pai bands dances and their link to their ancestors for a thousand years that hold back the flood of the empty Western culture.

I've seen faith turn a man from a wife beating alcoholic to a worthy father.

I have known those who have leaned on a higher power to brave their own death.

Nowhere have I heard any of the above say they were the end all be all, they did their thing in silence and built upon it. Unfortunatly there are a few exceptions that fuck it up and make a specticle of their religions.

Some may have been accosted by a Jehovas Witness or mormon missonary a few times and felt uncomfortable and pressured, but I would hardly say thats more persuasive than say the mass marketed appeal you get blitzed when walking into any store or turning on a TV set.

Weak minded? Many of our greatest minds and colleges the world over grapple with those questions.

I slightly disagree with this statement, I for one do not agree with fox hunting in this country, (to use an analogy), but I can't be arsed to get up and actually protest about it like some people do.
That doesn't make me a bad person. (although I am, know what I mean? eh? eh?)

I don't think thats the same just because you are against something and don't protest to have it banned isn't the same as standing idly by while watching something you believe in vilified. How often do you see a muslim say publicly "Just because a few muslims are evil don't think we all are!"
If they aren't willing to procliam it from their holy pulpits and issue their fatwas why should we believe them.
I've heard today (but as yet unresearched that Pakistani muslims have issued some sort of fatwa about Afgani Opium....is it because they are trying to do something many will see as good or is it to try and raise the prices for Pakistani opium?

As Mama points out she doesn't like people plying their religion on her. Having missionaries come to the door at dinnertime is one thing. Or a Bible thumper screeching fire and brimstone is another.

In many circles of Islam they take the Ko'ran a bit too seriously. Shoving religion to them means you; the infidel either gets taxed and regarded as lower than an animal. Or convert (you will still never be top Muslim regardless) or outright slit your throat.

Thats religious hard sell. Muslims are generally the most intollerant of other beliefs.

There is a difference between not agreeing with something like fox hunting and no being complicit with it and consent by silence. You are not a participant in the sport you are probably not a hunter period. I know hunters who actively speak out against canned hunts. I know some who don't. Regardless they are not complicit with illegal and immoral hunting. But they do have a level of resposibility in the legal, moral issues of thier sport. THey are under the same scrutiny of the game warden as a poacher.

In the case of Islam, it has not gone through a religious reform like the other major religions. And collectivly if Islam is to join the modern world. Islam is by nature connected. To be Muslim is to be Muslim, not a seperatist or sub-sect. That notion is condemned by the Ko'ran itself. To be Muslim means to be resonsible for the religion as a whole.

"Violent, extremist Islamists invoke on their own head the true jihad. Challenging all the peoples of the Earth, and first of all traditional Islam, professed by the overwhelming majority of the Islamic world, these forces put themselves in opposition to Islam. And reacting against them is a religious, moral, social and political duty of each Muslim."
A speech by Sheikh-ul-Islam, Talghat Tajuddin, Supreme Mufti, Representative of the Central Spiritual Board of Muslims for Russia and the East-European countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States
Moscow, June 28, 2001

"When bigots speak up, moderate and responsible voices in the American Muslim community must immediately condemn them. Let them know that those who espouse intolerance will never be our heroes," writes M. A. Muqtedar Khan

"It is time that we Muslims acknowledge that the freedoms we enjoy in the US are more desirable to us than superficial solidarity with the Muslim World. If you disagree, then prove it by packing your bags and going to whichever Muslim country you identify with."
Dr. M. A. Muqtedar Khan

it's good to know that some acually appear to follow the beliefs and are speaking out.

On a more personal note, my wife had an encouter with 1 last night, I'll try to tell you about it.

She is the night manager of a residential care program for handicapped kids.
Last nite 1 of their respite (temporary) charges wouldn't settle and was extremely upset (he is 3yo) so the missus was called in to investigate the reasons. Without going into details she decided that the only course was to send the child home so when the parents arrived to collect the child she decided to try and discover the cause for future occasions. After much jibbering from the parents she was able to decipher the cause was because he wasn't dressed the way he is use to being sent to bed, wearing some sort of headcovering and some special "socks" which weren't supplied by the parents and according to them required by their religion.
At this point my wife put her foot down and told the parents that staff were not permitted to do any form of religious rites with the children, if they were to wear clothing required by their religion they must be able to put it on themselves and then showed them the clause in the manual (this itsef was brought about several years ago when muslims objected to the annual Christmas party!!!)
The parents were upset by this and claimed that it should be done for their child. When my wife refused the father (who had done all the talking anyway) then commenced to berate my wife about her dress calling her "disgusting" because her arms, feet and head were not covered (his wife wes dressed in the female regalia made famous by the Taliban)
As this continued she contacted security to escort them from the premises. Which a FEMALE security guard did
A couple of hours later my wife recieved a phone call, all that was said was "You're disgusting" repeated several times. All calls are automatically traced and recorded by computer. She decided she'd had enough so contacted the local police who soon dropped by for their nightly cup of coffee.
While they were sitting around after ;istening to the recording he decided to ring back again, with the same message, my wife told him she had contacted the police, he continued so she hung up.
The phone immediately rang again and my wife was stopped from answering it by an officer who answered "Hullo Mr****** this is officer *******"
"SLAM" wnet the other phone
About an hour later the phone rang again, the police were still there, "Hi, this is officer ****** from ******* police just wanted to let you know that Mr****** is now in custody. I hope he is looking forward to his Bacon sandwich in the morning cos thats all his getting to eat"

who said the police don't have a sense of humour :D :D :D :D :D

Bacon sandwich ! Now if that happened here in the US the ACLU would collectivly orgasm at the mere notions of their possible lawsuits.

Thats an example of an intolerant religion no doubt. Heres a woman trying to help their children and they come off the wall like that. As it seems to be happening all over the world from lots of Muslim immigrants that they refuse to assimilate into the cultures they are joining. I hear there are areas in Europe and Erurasia that have pockets of muslims that are literaly starting their own gangster style barrios.

fermented beef ? I'm not Muslim and I'd think I'll pass on the peperoni :p
