View Full Version : Ashes to ashes....
What a great first day's play!!!!
Kudos to Simon Jones for getting a wicket off the first ball of his ashes debut...that's one to tell the grandkids...
but the day undoubtedly belonged to Glenn Mcgrath, congrats to him on
joining the 500 club - Walsh's record of most wickets by a quickie is a mere 15 wickets away....come on maggie...you can doo eet!!!
Pity about england's top order but it's hard to resist the line and lenght that mcgrath was bowling.
A decent recovery by the tail today, but the aussies finally got the poms out for 155 - Pieterson justifying his call up with a brilliant 50 with some lusty hitting at the end...
I wonder how the aussies will do in the second innings?
the biggest disappointment for me was flintoff's duck - I was expecting a lot from him.
oh well...

After Langers run-out I think the aussies are trying to lose!
But what an awesome spell from McGrath yesterday 31 balls 2 runs 5 wickets :D

it's worse if you get given out-handled ball
or if you got hit in the googlies by a googly...
jeez...we've even managed to derail a cricket thread...
anyhoo, the aussies seem to be in a great position, good innings by clarke...I remember the commentator saying that he doesn't perform on seaming pitches and boy was he proven wrong...pity he got out at 91 tho...

jeez...we've even managed to derail a cricket thread...[/QUOTE] OK not sure but is cricket the game using a big flat paddle to hit a ball.

yep, and if you miss hitting the ball it might hit the balls.
The aussies are doing well. The question now is can McGrath get another 50? He's currently 20 which is more than most the poms got :D

07-24-2005, 03:41 AM
nope, Katich got out :(
McGrath will prolly be leading the batting averages with 10no and 20no

funny how the poms duck and run when they get flogged at cricket :p
it was a pity really, they did well to restrict the aussies in the first innings but they
forgot that you have to bat as well, not only bowl. in the second innings, they forgot
how to bat AND bowl...silly buggers.

I think you are overlooking just how good the aussies are. It's not that the poms bowled well on the 1st day but it wasn't a good pitch. If Ponting and Langer both get hit in the same session you must ask questions, it's not like they were facing the Courtney and Curtley show when they were at their best.
When a ferret like McGrath can get 20no the pitch must have settled but they were still restricted to less than the aussies 1st knock.
Now they've lost any chance they may have had because they didn't sacrifice a wicket to Gillespie, who is sadly out of form and will be replaced for the next game. With another strike bowler they fall even further behind.
yeah i have to admit the aussies were pretty ruthless...
u think symonds will play in the next game?
zokah
07-26-2005, 04:00 AM
nope, but Kasparwich(or however you spell his name) will

after symonds late night/early morn drinking binge he is on the outter with the selectors
pity, i've always admired him as an all-rounder
zokah
07-29-2005, 05:23 AM
yeah, but we don't need allrounders in the test side. but I s'pose he's a good allrounder in the bar :D

if he shouts the allrounders to the selectors at the bar then he might have a chance of getting back in

Right, that's that. normal sevice no doubt will be resumed at Old trafford.

I think it depends partly on McGrath, but at least there won't be the psychological problems associated with losing the worlds best fast bowler minutes before the game.
The biggest question raised from this game is which was the best ball bowled, the "Ball of the century" or the "Strauss ball"?
that was the most fucking exciting match I have ever watched..nailbiting stuff..I thought
the aussies were dead and buried at the end of the third days play with 8 down needing
another 100 odd runs..what a comeback, Warne and lee showed that they know a thing or three ab00t batting. I call this test the Tale of the Tails !!
And Flinty, what a performance..he deserved his MOM award....great stuff and the
series is still alive at 1-1.
zokah
08-09-2005, 01:27 AM
I still stand by 3-1 prediction
like i said before as long as it's exciting ( and it sure was exciting yesterday) i don't care about the outcome..
no wait, that's a lie, I was jumping around like a madman when Jones held on to the catch to dismiss Kaspar...it's fun to root for the underdog....
C'MOM YA POMMIE BASTIDS!!!!

the only way the poms could win was to bowl like a pack of girls , i hope the next test the poms wear the bruises 10 fold
mind the aussies have deployed the same " pack of girls" tactics many many times

apart from the tied tests it's the 2nd closest margin ever and Australia now has lost 5 of the 10 closest games in history based on runs and lost 4 from 10 (alltime) with 1 wicket standing.
If I was a pom I'd be very worried about the next match since Lee found "it" in the 2nd innings
wutangstan
08-09-2005, 03:31 AM
I'm not worried because I don't care about the result, I like cricket and it's nice to see us win, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.
Now, football is a different matter.
apparently lee has some sort of knee infection and may not play in the next test.
Mcgrath is still doubtful for the third test isn't he? I read that the aussies were
considering playing 2 spinners - warne and mcgill?
England have named an unchanged side for the 3rd test.
zokah
08-10-2005, 01:29 AM
Yeah, I heard that today about Lee. It wouldn't be a bad idea playing 2 leggies since the poms have only a little more knowledge about playing it than Daryl Cullinan had. The selectors have called a young quick into the squad who was playing over there.
If it was my call now would be the time to select Symonds and make sure the next game if it becomes unwinnable a draw will ensue
pity about india losing to sri lanka yesterday :(
Is mcgrath 100% out of the 3rd test?
zokah
08-11-2005, 05:11 AM
apparently so, but Lee has said he'll be playing
that was a surprise, both mcgrath and lee are playing.
Congrats to Warnie for getting to 600! Do you think murali will ever catch up?
zokah
08-13-2005, 04:32 AM
Not a chance if he can play the same number of tests against Kenya and Bangladesh as Murali has.
I'm beginning to think McGrath maybe should have waited 0/86 off 25 :(
I'm still surprised he played. and it's been a long time since I've seen him finish
with a 0fer
looks like england are on top again...but i've seen the aussies dig themselves out of deeper holes....should be a good day's play .

08-14-2005, 02:55 AM
the batsman need to get back to basics soon
well aussieland barely escaped with a draw...England did everything except pick up the last wicket. Warnie and Lee are turning out to be quite decent batsmen...

had it not been for the fucking exhibition football (American) games tonight...I could have had my pick of "D" or "A"...

it has been the best series australia has been involved in for many years, it's a pity that there just wasn't enuff time for the aussies to set a record for the highest winning 4th innings total. McGrath wus robbed of his 2nd half century but I don't Warne will ever get a century
