Wahay! Football starts on saturday!! And for Stanlington and Xenry that can only be good.

Champions : Chelsea
Runners up: Man utd then Arsenal
Relegated: WBA, Wigan, Portsmouth

That's my opinion.

ack....I thought you meant American football....thought it was a bit early for that

zokah

meh, the season for the real game only has 4 weeks until the semifinals start and my team hasn't had a full roster available all season

Right, let's clear this up once and for all. Football is football, a game that's is played by kicking a ball with you foot(or feet). It is not a game you play by throwing a ball with your hands, that would be handball.
Now, these other games that call themselves football, are, in their own way great games, I have a particular fondeness for aussie rules, but I find it irritating that they call themselves football, whilst trying to convince us Brits and europeans and every other country in the world that plays football that we should change the name to soccer, just so that the population of ONE country doesn't get confused.

Rant over.:)

zokah
08-13-2005, 12:56 AM
a football can only be used to football, a mans game, the ball shouldn't be interchangeable with a netball. Although it does share many similarities with netball most ly that those play either games should wear skirts.
It is incomprehensible that any sane person would try to control a piece of pigskin using only the feet, it makes much more sense to pick up the ball and run with it, occasionally kicking it to get past people who might attempt to stop their progress

xen
08-13-2005, 01:11 AM
then why not call the bloody sport pickupnrunwithit ball??

I'm with stan on this one.

xen
08-13-2005, 01:14 AM
and only one more day before i can watch my beloved Spurs back in premiership action!!
Huzzah tho we do face a potentially tricky visit to pompey...

Good luck to the black cats as well - Hope they do well - for stanley's sake.

Chelscum does seem unlikey to give up their title this season, Manure and the Arse
most probably the teams that will push them all the way.

I think Liverpool should do quite well this season and I also think that Spurs will have a good showing this year with a top 5 finish. They've been steadily strengthening their team and the signing of Edgar davids should add that killer touch in the middle of the park that we were lacking last season

COME ON YOU SPURS!!! COME ON YOU SPURS!!!!!

xen
08-13-2005, 01:15 AM
relegation favourites - Wigan, West Ham and Everton or newcastle

wutangstan
08-13-2005, 03:03 AM
I'd like to agree with you on the newcastle one, but I think that's just wishfull thinking on my behalf.
Spurs I think will definetely be in Europe by the end of this season, top 6 finish easy I reckon, looking at some of the teams this season, I truly believe that Sunderland may well be pushing for a spot, but I don't think we'll actually get it.

xen
08-13-2005, 09:01 PM
I think Sunderland should be able to comfortably finish mid-table. a push for a UEFA spot is not impossible but I'd wait for them to put in a few good results first. Survival is the main objective of most promoted sides, but I think sunderland should comfortably manage that.

wutangstan
08-15-2005, 10:46 AM
Heh heh, what a great start. Not. well done the Spurs though.

xen
08-15-2005, 07:57 PM
sorry stan :(

but WAAHEY!! for teh spurs!!!

did you see the weasels chelscum squeeze out the win in the dying seconds?? Wigan deserved at least a point if not more...poor bastards.

xen
08-23-2005, 07:53 PM
WE'RE ON TOP OF THE LEAGUE, WE'RE ON TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!!

if you kick someone in the balls is this called football?

here i am, all by my lonesome self, they're showing the match...spurs down a player and 1-0 down at half time

the only consolation i have is that aussieland are getting their asses kicked in the fourth test...a follow on..how long has it been since their last one?

xen
08-28-2005, 05:51 PM
there there stanley...they've all been close matches. They'll come around..don't you worry

and like i said, consolation in the fact that england have a good chance of winning the ashes!!

zokah
08-28-2005, 08:15 PM
meh, they6 got their asses kis\cked cos they suck and are filthy players, trying to take some guys head off with an elbow?

That what the aussies cricket team need to do :D

xen
08-29-2005, 09:48 PM
chelsea bought the ref, that's why spurs lost.

Stanley, I guess you could also take some consolation that the magpies have yet to score this season

17 years ago was the last time they had to follow on, the way they played in the 4th test they deserved to lose

zokah
08-30-2005, 04:33 AM
true dat. I think it's also been about that long since they've played 4 games in a row with only 1 century between them

xen
08-30-2005, 07:49 PM
Well in a way, it's good for the game for the aussie dominance to end. They've had an excellent run, several great years at the top of the heap but it was getting kind of one-sided and given the limited number of countries that play Test cricket, it was getting kind of boring as well.

zokah
08-31-2005, 01:22 AM
I gotta agree, even the papers here were writing stories along those lines.
It's just to bad the games against the rest of the world weren't when a few more of the players were in form

09-01-2005, 04:29 AM
look how long the windies were on top until viv rchards, clive lloyd, gordon grennich etc all retired fairly close to each other and the windies have been nothing since

xen
09-01-2005, 07:18 PM
i think the aussies are putting too much pressure on themselves by announcing that they're going to score a resounding win in the last test..warne, ex-captain waugh have been going on about it in the press.

do you think hayden will be dropped and if so who'll replace him?

zokah
09-02-2005, 12:46 AM
I dunno who'd replace him but he isn't the only out of form batsman.
Would they open with Gilchrist and maybe give Symonds a run as all rounder?
Will England continue to bend the rules with the 12th man

xen
09-02-2005, 01:49 AM
i don't think they were bending the rules. Ponting was upset about being run out by a sub who was on for Jones who was most definitely injured

funny i was think symonds too..is he even in the squad?

zokah
09-02-2005, 02:26 AM
England have been doing it the entire series, putting on a fielding specialist sub usually while resting a bowler, sorta like what Arajuna Needsarunner use to do for SI in 1 day games

xen
09-07-2005, 02:08 AM
india are doing reasonably well against the kiwis in the final of the videocon cup...
266/8 in 48 - do u think they can win?

zokah

yeah, but anybody can beat the kiwis

xen
09-07-2005, 05:50 PM
apparently every one but the indians :(

and the finals jinx continues for the not-so-mighty indians

zokah
09-08-2005, 01:37 AM
you're having a bad run, India lose again and the spurs played that badly last time they still won't let them play a game that might count for anything. But all is not lost since they've signed a new player whose presence will probably boost the testosterone level in the team

the test is almost surely headed for a draw....quite the anti-climax this one after 4 amazing tests, it's a pity to see the series just fizzle out in the end.

Still well done the pommies. It's time for a new era in cricket - the POST-AUSSIE era :D

I still can't belive that they're talking about firing hte aussie coach. surely one series loss isn't enough to fire a man that's lead them to so many glorious victories?

riding the wave for 17 years playing teams well below par has given the aussie cricket team a false sense of being on top.when all the older bowlers retire there is no new great talent to think of coming through the ranks so its the aussie`s turn to be mediocre in the cricket arena

zokah
09-13-2005, 01:49 AM
Gotta agree there, look what happened when Lillee, Marsh and Chappell all retired or the Windies.
Still after 20 years it was time to let the poms mind them for a few months, don't they play the return series this year in Oz?

wutangstan
09-15-2005, 01:20 AM
And, in all seriousness, would you consider Australia to be No1 after their series performance?

xen
09-15-2005, 01:25 AM
well stanley, i'm all for england but one series doesn't make them #1. based on consistency and regular results, australia is still #1

zokah
09-15-2005, 01:40 AM
yep considering it's the only series they've lost and the 2-1 margin they have to still be rated as N0.1. If they lose a couple more matchs in a row then they could lose the ranking

i`m a wannabe
09-17-2005, 09:16 PM
in the good ol days cricket was only played about 6 months of the year now its almost a full year of cricket and touring no matter what country they are from so 1 series lost in no great shame come 18 months time for the next ashes series lets see who is going to be the winner and loser,by then maybe the aussie`s might be on a down hill slide

xen

wutangstan
09-22-2005, 01:20 AM
Yeh, thanks. I think. We struggled to beat a division 2 side, that's 3 whole divisions below us, I don't think congrats are in order really, more like shotguns to the head.
( oh, and I wasn't suggesting England were the No1 team, just that Australia aren't. I don't know that much about cricket in detail, but a side that loses to local county teams and bangladesh as well can't really be number 1, can they?)

xen
09-22-2005, 01:24 AM
at least you guys picked up your first victory of the season..and let's look at it another way, would you rather they have gone the spurs way?

as for aussieland, you can't judge them by just one series...you have to take into account their other performances this year as well.

zokah
09-22-2005, 01:59 AM
They've made some changes for the test against the world. They've selected Nathan Braken the left arm quick. Sadly I doubt if he'll actually play the game because of politics assuming McGrath and Lee play, I can't recall a time they had all 3 quicks from the same state

xen
09-22-2005, 02:42 AM
what state they play for shouldn't really make a difference should it?

zokah
09-22-2005, 03:08 AM
It shouldn't but in reality I doubt if there is a country that doesn't have selectors from various counties/states that want the hometown hero to play no matter that they might not be the best option. We had a similar problem when Taylor, Slater, the Waugh brothers, McGrath and I forget who else were all in the side, other states were saying it wasn't good for the State comp.

xen
09-22-2005, 06:19 PM
yeah there's similiar politics among the indian selectors as well with each one trying to maximise his state's representation in the national team.

zokah
09-23-2005, 01:11 AM
Thats the reason a certain player was selected for more tests after a shocker of a start when he finished with match figures of 1/150. There was nobody else from his state in the team at the time. He later uttered the infamous words "can't bowl and can't throw" after a return from the outfield landed in the middle of the pitch.

xen
09-23-2005, 01:45 AM
i'm a bit muddled today, who're we talking about again?

hmm...i've heard of that fellah.....;)

i would personally think that in their current manager vs captian state,
they're better off not playing.

have to agree with chapell tho, ganguly, tho he's been a great player and is
the winningest captian in india, is well past his prime and he should step down.

and that he should publicize a private discussion between coach and captain after what he thought was a huge centry ( painstakingly scored at over 2.5 balls a run against the weakest attack in cricket in just over six hours) is just pathetic.
