Bloody flippin' bloomin thing. Using firefox fine till now, don't know what I done but I have somehow been taken back to an earlier setting on my firefox page, all my bookmarks, even the skin is an older one. Understand? All my carefully foldered bookmarks etc and skin that I was using have disappeared? I'm not happy, any ideas?

*update. Blimey what a pain in the arse. The restore did correct my original problem fine, but created an altogether different one.
Last week I had to update my aol doodah, ( yeh I know, aol suxxorz) because they had limited me to 128k because I hadn't updated previously, which in it self was a complete pain in the arse, but when I restored my comp, it reliably informed me via a big red pop-up that I was limited again because I hadn't updated!!! even though I only restored to yesterday and I updated last saturday. took me 2 hours!!

AOL sucks a$$. But I'm too lazy to change. woe is me.

you should have checked which identity you were using before the system restore.
It's a little bug they haven't fixed yet. Sometimes when firefox hangs-up due to scripts on a page (I bet you was surfing bad pr0n sites) and you think you've closed it to escape it stays idling in the background. When you open it again it actually opens as a different identity but with access to all bookmarks until you reboot, most times. After the reboot (or whatever else causes it, they still can't work out what) and open FF it opens to the default identity but with the bookmarks etc from the last install/upgrade.
Next time it hangs press M$s fav keys - alt/ctrl/del - ONCE go to the processes page highlight "firefox.exe" and click "end process"
If you've reopened it you'll see it there twice or however many pages (not tabs) you have open

That's exactly what happened I think. Except for the pr0n bit, actually. I was on a footy website when it all went shitshaped.

did it have embedded flash or pop-unders, they appear to be the main causes. It doesn't have to be big flash animations, a lot of the time it can be the small 2-3kb things that cause the problem I think.
Check out switching identities for next time, it'll save you some grief
