I have to admit, I'm a bit of a Disney nut.

I grew up on Disney, I look up to Walter Elias Disney as a hero and an inspiration. My imagination and love for art was forged on the Disney classics, Fantasia 1 & 2 being my second and third favorite movies.

Disney taught me not to be afraid of my imagination, to wield it with courage and respect. His vision led the youth of the world to become astronauts, film directors, musicians, dreamers with the conviction to obtain their dreams.

Of course if Walt came back today and saw that his dream has been turned into a bastardized marketing/media conglomerate whore, he'd have somebodys ass. And there is a fable that he may indeed, come back.

So the past weekend me and my lady, an even bigger Disney freak than I, went to Disneyland for three days. I'm still trying to recover my strength!

We do Disney like a crack squad of commando elite. We know how to get around the park, maximizing our time, avoiding the crowds as much as possible and spending a relatively small amount of cash. Of course 2 churros will set you back $8.50 but hey.. it's fuel. :D

We would sit in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and critique the unnessesary addition of Captain jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) character to the attraction.Walt was a master of the Dark Ride concept, and the current knobs don't seem to have the same knack.

It was the last few weeks of the 50th anniversary celebration of the park, with signature rides and attractions having a gold (50) commemeration plaque of some type. And one of the best fireworks show I've ever seen, minimalist and well choreographed. The new CEO of Disney (after Eisners sorry ass got kicked out) seems to have brought back some of the old Magic, the parks cleaner, the theming better and the staff much more freindlier, several hallmarks of Disneys concept.

Monday was particularly poigniant. We got to get in the park an hour early, ahead of the surge of headlong humanity. A moment I'll cherish forever, to stand in the Main Street square before the flag of the US at half mast, to offer an thankful prayer that I'm so blessed to be there on a gorgeous Southern California day with my girl while most people walked past that flag oblivious. To see people from around the world bring their children there to welcome the possibility that one could be inspired to take their dreams and run with them.

Disneys done more to alieviate human discontent than any organized religion.

In spite of the mighty cash Mouse.

yea, I learned how to shake the pan at an early age. None of that Jippy-Pop crap or microwave stuff. Maybe some parmesian cheese thrown on for good measure.

Now a days I'll spritz popcorn with curry powder or tobasco :p

My folks where all from Pennsylvania so they called it pop too. We rarely got pop, usullaly from my grandpa (root beer). I remember as a little boy hanging out with gramps drinking root beer eatting Ritz crackers with spray on cheese watching old westerns.

ha, my Grandma owned a bar. Was a great time when I was able to go spend a few weeks with her and none of my brothers or sisters could. Was allowed to eat as many bags of potato chips (rarely had them at home) and bottles of soda that I wanted to....

she lived way up north, and since I was the "good" child, I was always welcome to stay at relatives homes when I was little.

sigh...the wonderful world of disney, i used to wait for fridays ( that was the weekend in kuwait ) to watch it. friday afternoons when everyone else was taking their nap.
I love the older disney stuff, but not the commercialised crap they churn out these days.

Disney is nothing but a cash machine now. they opened up the Hk disneyland a year ago - I've been only once and i wasn't impressed - it's the smallest disney in the world, the food is geared to mainly the chinese, barely a handful of rides, the nightly fireworks just add to hk's pollution woes, regular complaints from the staff of mistreatment and blackmail, Minnie even got molested by some mainland ( chinese ) tourists to such an extent that all characters now go around the park with a "minder". Apart from that, it's disney's fucked up policies that have turned most people agains them. In the first month or so, disney refused entry into the park of an ambulance summoned to take an eldery person who had collapsed from heat exhaustion...apparently it would break the illusion of the magical world to have an ambulance riding down main street...said guest died later in the hospital. Disney then locked out guests ( mostl mainland tourists) holding valid tickets due to the park being full...Disney also refused entry to some health inpsectors in uniform - insisting that they come in everyday clothes before entering the park. Any other organisation pulling a stunt like that would have been dealt with
pretty harshly but not disney. Disneyland is heavily subsidized by the hk govt - using taxpayer money and yet coporate disney refuses to release attendance figures or such like to the public. And the icing on the cake was when they agreed to set up a disneyland in shanghai in a couple of years - effectively killing the hk disneyland's chances of ever breaking even - they depend on mainland tourists here - if there's a disneyland in shanghai, most mainlanders would opt to go there.

suffice to say, disney hasn't exactly endeared itself to hk.

Over the last few months with most folks (myself included), except die hard mousekateers opting for hk's other theme park - Ocean park. they have go karts...woohoo!!

it's a shame that Disney HK is so lame. Both the Disney resorts here have their own medical facilities and evac procedures.

And I'm sure HK Disney doesn't have a Studio 33 (I'll gain access some day)

Interesting, this happened the third day we was in the park, and we were over in that section early so we probably walked right by it.

Now while I can appreciate thiis Banksy person for their conviction and creativity, as with anything, examining the many sides of any question or issue is mandatory for anyone wishing to say anything objective.

So I think banksy should make a dummy of a woman in a birka being beat for getting caught learning how to read and sneak it into the NBC studios durrning prime time.

it could have been worse from Disney's point of view if you consider what inflatable dolls are usually used for.

I guess banksy got himself a real woman finally :D
