Gnome

well if theyre alters, we can either decypher the anagrams (if they are such) or you can just scope out the IP and we can see who they are.

proxie IPs are IPs that cannot be traced to the person using them....well, I'm sure government officials may have a way of tracing them.

People who SPAM have a tendency to use proxies because they are too chicken shit to post their real IPs

so I use cable modem, that has a proxie I imagine so thats good right? I dont get any spam in my cable email boxes. Of course idont use it for signing up on anything on the web.

I have my machine plugged directly into the cable modem, is that a bad idea? I have a firewall, and I'm hoping soon to hood my wireless router up but thats a ways away.

no, having cable does not give you a proxie IP. As a matter of fact, with cable, your IP stays the same where ever you go on the internet. AOL's IPs change every time you log on, so are harder to trace.

a proxie IP is simply an IP that you find from a server on the internet that will give you a "bogus" IP address to use. Most times, you have to go in and get a new one (sometimes within hours) because they are reset all the time...as a way to avoid detection of location.

Let me break it down:
I want to SPAM a place, or post illegal material, I don't want my IP to be able to be traced. While I live in the U.S., I can go into a proxy site and ask for a proxy IP that says I'm posting from somewhere in, let's say, South America, rather than the U.S.

that's handy

Gnome

wow I get the feeling my IP and compure is exposed to the world like a naked possum

I spend a lot of time on these things but I'm more of an end user. Spend hours in Illustrator and Pshop but thats the extent of my useful knowledge. I know enough to really fuck things up.

I only learned all that shit after becoming a mod at GG....then when I became a supermod, I really had to understand that shit.

my isp connects through a proxy :P but if you really want to go hard core and be hard to trace there are plenty of programs flaoting around that can "hide" your ip address or find proxies to use

Zokah posted a story a ways back about that browser that can run on a flash card, linx around here someplace.

they can do that stuff but 95% of the websites out and about are put together like crap.

MamaBush

some websites automatically ban members using proxy or false IPs
