If you have been ripping much via torrents you could be in for a nasty shock from the MPAA (RIAAs cousin) following the settlement of the LokiTorrent case in the US.
The judge has ordered the owners to hand over the logfiles so somewhere in a dingy basement people will be searching the files looking for big users. If this is you I hope you've been using an anon proxy.

It was a better way to share files if you had a fast connexion. I could have got new release movies before they made it to the theatres

Having read the article, I notice it's about films, which I didn't download, plus it's the AMERICAN movie association anyway, not the British or anyone else.

like RIAA I'm sure they'll be more than willing to share any info with all the other associations with the similar aim of stopping filesharing

Yeh, my thoughts too, still I'm not what you would call a prolific d/loader, and I really only do music anyway.

they usually want the uploaders and in this case the highest priority will go to IDing whoever was seeding the pre-release movies

I download torrents all the time, more media than I can feasably watch or listen to. I always run peer guardian (http://www.methlabs.org/) concurrently though, which I update daily. Hopefully that goes a long way towards blocking those unfriendly breadheads that are out to get me. I should really start running proxies too.
